A couple of stops on a Rover trip back in 1986. The first is Eastleigh, always a busy station. The station view shows the recently lifted bay platform and a strangely empty station! 1110 is providing the shuttle service to Fareham on the rather underused (at the time) line via Botley. This was of course before electrification. Since this pic the Romsey line has fully reopened and serves a revived station at Chandler's Ford.

The two bottom shots are of Portsmouth and Southsea (High Level) station, which has been rebuilt since the pictures. Slam door stock have of course also vanished, so both shots are historic. The High level station was (and is) very busy as most trains continue to Portsmouth Harbour station, the large low level station has always - to me - seemed rather underused!

  1. Many thanks for the photos. I was involved with the tation reconstruction here. Also a frequent changing point when I was involved with Salisbury station improvements.
